On the flip side I keep telling myself after halt it could have opened at 117 and I could have been holding, so I will take my $91 after commissions and shut-up........LOL

Sounds like you are right there where most of us are at on the VIX learning curve! How has the options hedging been working out over time? They tend to always be way overpriced based on a normal distribution assumption, but we know that TVIX is definitely not normally distributed, so I assume that hedging with options still works pretty well? It worked out good. I bought 20 VIX call options expiring 03/21/17, about 6 months ago at about $2.75. Now they are worth .06 First, I was able to sleep peacefully and they let me enter more bold shorts. Second, multiple times in the first couple months they went over $3, so I could've made money on them.
Shorting the opposite (XIV) was also helpful. For example, If you short two opposite ETF's at lets say $100 each. Lets say one goes up 100%, so it goes to $200 and the other to $50. When the first one goes down 50% to $100 again, the 2nd one will go to $75

Excellent! I love that about VXX - XIV percentage change

I thought you had a long term short on UVXY? I do, but I started scalping like you and Mist, but nowhere near your shares..............in and out usually with 1k shares, after reverse splits I'm only at 40 shares LT................so I wanted to add more but could never get the conviction to do another 1k and hold..................too suspect of the mkt. or too scared I guess you could say..............

That is why a long term long on XIV is safer when the SHTF than a long term VXX short. VXX doubled in 2015, XIV lost 1/2 it's value.
Either way is no good ha ha
They tend to move in close to parity until it gets real bad, by then I hope to be long gone from the trade

I switched back to Scottrade from IB and Scottrade doesn't allow shorting any security under $5. IB's commissions are very expensive when you short a lot of shares. Was getting charged almost $300 a day in commissions. BTW - I posted over on TVIX, UVXY Yahoo msg boards as gtr. What was your name on YMB?

I just signed in with my email, don't think I have a username with yahoo. I know I am with IB, they charge half a penny for each share over 500 shares, so I am happy about this reverse split

Some over at YMB can be a little difficult. Some thought I was pumping FAZination Proboards for personal gain. And I kept explaining to them that YMB is so limited and can't post charts at YMB and this forum is absolutely free and has a lot of experienced, knowledgeable traders. Walnut (Chris) - is a master options trader and has over 30 years broker experience. I'm a home gamer that loves trading (mostly shorting) these VIX ETPs (VXX, TVIX, UVXY). I call them the VIX SCAMs. And I love Technical Analysis and have a real serious and nice setup. I'm Rob BTW (aka theMist)
