10 things you need to know before the opening bell The dollar is getting whacked. The US dollar index trades down 0.54% at 91.16, and it has now fallen nearly 11% in 2017. The 10-year is at its lowest level since the election. The benchmark yield holds at 2.05%, a level it hadn't seen since the day after President Donald Trump's election victory. China's trade surplus narrows. Exports in US dollar terms grew by 5.5% year-over-year in August while imports surged 13.3%, causing the country's trade surplus to narrow to $41.99 billion, according to China's General Administration of Customs. Japan's GDP sees a big downward revision. The Japanese economy grew at an annualized rate of 2.5% in the second quarter, down from a previous estimate of 4%, data released by the Cabinet Office showed on Friday. Equifax says hackers may have exposed personal details of 143 million Americans. Shares fell 6% in after-hours trading on Thursday after the breach was revealed. Equifax executives dumped shares after the hack was discovered. Three senior executives sold almost $2 million worth of stock just days after the breach was discovered, according to Bloomberg's Anders Melin. Equifax says the employees "had no knowledge" of the breach. Google is close to buying HTC's smartphone business. The companies are in the final stages of hammering out a deal, according to a report in a Taiwanese publication. The report does not say how much Google may buy HTC for. Stock markets around the world are lower. Japan's Nikkei (-0.63%) lagged in Asia, and France's CAC (-0.33%) leads the losses in Europe. The S&P 500 is set to open lower by 0.14% near 2,462. Earnings reports trickle out. Kroger reports ahead of the opening bell. US economic data is light. Wholesale inventories will be released at 10 a.m. ET, and consumer credit crosses the wires at 3 p.m. ET. www.businessinsider.com/opening-bell-september-8-2017-2017-9

10 things in tech you need to know today 1. Google is very close to buying HTC's smartphone business. The Taiwan-based electronics company has been struggling. 2. Credit-monitoring agency Equifax was breached, and 143 million people's details were stolen. Three executives sold stock before the news was announced, but say they had no knowledge of it. 3. Twitter is preparing a Facebook-like analysis of Russian activity for US Congress. Facebook found evidence that fake accounts from Russia bought thousands of adverts during the US election. 4. Canada-based Kik isn't letting Canadian investors participate in its $125 million (£95 million) ICO. It will be one of the highest-profile initial coin offerings yet, Bloomberg reports. 5. Apple is totally dependant on Samsung for the iPhone 8. The South Korean company is making its OLED screen. 6. Amazon plans to build another US headquarters that is "equal" in size to its Seattle campus. It will cost $5 billion, and the location hasn't been decided yet. 7. Fintech has a gender problem. Women represent just 29% of staff in the sector in the UK. 8. Investors including GV (formerly Google Ventures) poured $93 million (£71 million) into a company building personalised cancer vaccines. Gritstone Oncology wants to start human clinical trials in 2018. 9. The iPhone 8 could cost $1,000 in the US (and potentially up to £1,000 in the UK), but most people won't pay that upfront. Contracts with carriers will soften the blow. 10. Marvel and Disney movies will be streamed exclusively on Disney's new streaming app when it launches. CNBC reports it is expected to open in late 2019. www.businessinsider.com/10-things-in-tech-you-need-to-know-september-8-2017-9

Here's why I think XLF has a decent chance of bouncing from yesterday's low. Although it appears to be forming a major top that began back in March (large H&S shown with red lines, followed by a Head Test to create a Double-Top), if it were to form yet another a H&S now as the 2nd top of its Double-Top (blue lines) , it could bounce at least to the shoulder test line ~24.50's (blue arrow), & perhaps even overshoot a little for the upside gap fill ~24.77 (purple arrow). A move >24.02 (larger H&S' shoulder test line) would confirm a move to at least 24.50's)

(if followed my suggested BAC short back in July - short @ 24.87, downside target ~18.50 - should be fine to hold even if XLF pops, or hedge for very short term with an XLF swing long if >24.02)

Beautiful weather here in Tampa, Florida too.. so far What is your situation there? Are hurricanes a serious threat up on the west side of the state? we will probably see hurricane 1 or tropical storm winds. Nothing major as the west side of the hurricane is not as powerful. This will lead to broken branches and power lines down. Homes with weaker construction will probably lose roofs, there may be flooding in flood zone areas. It wont be pretty but nothing like Miami area is projected to see
