10 things you need to know before the opening bell Stocks usually go up after a solar eclipse. Stocks have returned an average of 17.2% in the 12 months following a solar eclipse, according to data compiled by LPL Financial. Goldman Sachs says this may not be the big correction we've been waiting for. Technical strategist Sheba Jafari says stocks are in the fourth wave of a five-wave cycle and "in theory have at least one more advance." German economic sentiment drops sharply. The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment for Germany fell by 7.5 points in August to 10.0 amid weaker-than-expected exports and a "widening scandal in the German automobile sector," according to ZEW's president, professor Achim Wambach. The world's biggest sovereign wealth fund made a ton money. Norway's sovereign wealth fund returned 2.6%, or $2.6 billion, in the June quarter, according to Bloomberg, citing a statement handed out Tuesday. Bitcoin falls below $4,000. The cryptocurrency trades down 2.24% at $3,912 a coin, while its rival bitcoin cash is up 15.6% at $696. Ford wants to launch fully electric cars in China. The automaker has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese electric-vehicle maker Anhui Zotye Automobile to discuss a joint venture to build and sell cars in China, the Financial Times reports. Apple survives an Australian tax audit without penalty. The Australia Tax Office has confirmed "that all our corporate taxes are up to date and we continue to engage only with the ATO as to our current and future taxes," local managing director Tony King said. Stock markets around the world are higher. Hong Kong's Hang Seng (+0.91%) led the gains in Asia, and Britain's FTSE (+0.70%) is out front in Europe. The S&P 500 is set to open higher by 0.13% near 2,432. Earnings reports trickle out. Toll Brothers reports ahead of the opening bell, and Salesforce releases its quarterly results after markets close. US economic data is light. FHFA home prices will be released at 9 a.m. ET. The US 10-year yield is up 2 basis points at 2.20%. www.businessinsider.com/opening-bell-august-22-2017-2017-8

10 things in tech you need to know today 1. Google officially unveiled the latest version of its mobile operating system. Android 8.0 is called "Oreo," and it will begin rolling out to Google's own Pixel and Nexus devices in the coming days and weeks, with more devices to follow. 2. Google is reportedly planning to launch a new Pixel-branded Chromebook laptop later this year. The device should be announced alongside the new Pixel phones, as well as a new, smaller version of the Home smart speaker. 3. A group of hackers claimed to have entered Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN). The group, named "OurMine," was able to briefly overtake the company's PlayStation-related Twitter accounts, and claimed to have stolen information from PSN users. 4. Microsoft announced that its voice-recognition technology has become better than humans at transcribing conversations. The company achieved a 6.3% error rate back in September, and has now come down below 5.1% — the error rate of a group of people. 5. Tesla has become the fourth-largest automaker by value in the world. With its $58.8 billion (£45.6 billion) valuation, it sits above both General Motors and Ford in the United States, while only Toyota, Volkswagen, and Daimler are bigger internationally. 6. HTC is permanently cutting the price of its virtual reality (VR) headset, the Vive, to $599 in the US and £599 in the UK. The move is a strategic one, and comes after Facebook's decision to bring down the price of its own VR headset, the Oculus Rift, to $499 (£387). 7. Spotify executives have reportedly met with US regulators to discuss its upcoming direct listing. It's bypassing a typical IPO and the SEC is looking into the unusual plan. 8. Facebook will launch a dedicated "Safety Check" tab in its app over the coming weeks. It will show a continuous stream of bad events happening in the world — from terrorist attacks to extreme weather situations — and show whether your friends are marked as safe. 9. Intel updated its Core lineup of processors to the 8th generation. The new chips are still based on the architecture of Kaby Lake, the 7th generation, but boast a 40% speed improvement over the previous models. 10. WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a new feature to its Snapchat-like "Status." Much like on Facebook, the new update will allow users to create status updates with text on a colored background, choose between different fonts, and even add links. www.businessinsider.com/10-things-in-tech-you-need-to-know-today-august-22-2017-8

The thing is, you never know when it is happening. And so to me it makes it impossible to do. That is the million dollar puzzle really. I've been having some luck doing smaller scalps, long and short. If you are persistent (and either good or lucky), you can beat a sell and hold strategy.

I believe this move is only a technical move to fill those upside gaps:
NDX 5912-5918 AAPL 160.95 SPX 2466-2468 XLF 25.05
After this move, I expect to see S&P 2350's

I think the key support to watch now is NDX 5770. The backtest I showed in the NDX chart was significant, and that set-up typically leads to a short term bottom. 5770 is the final FIB from that low, so only if that were lost could we scratch those upside gap fills. JMO

Going forward, I can't get caught again maxed out on short VXX position Scottrade was real fast this time around and weren't going to let me ride it out for a few days like they did in the past low equity equals immediate funding of account OR closing out position I need VXX to get to 11 again (all time lows) to make up for most of the carnage

I thought it was only Fidelity that was giving a hard time on this. That was the first time they made me cover a margin call on after hours.

IB doesn't waste manpower, they just cover for you automatically One time it was actually a good move. They covered some of my shorts automatically. So I went and closed all my other positions (NON-SCAM). And reshorted TVIX at a higher price so I got a better average.
