One benefit to holding over night is it prevents you from chasing the gap downs and trying to scalp those trades that turn back up.

Depends on the trader. I prefer to hold long term overnight positions in a strong market environment. The gains compound. The riskiest time of the trade is early in the trade because it naturally decays so much over a few weeks it almost doesn't become a risk anymore. For instance, if one shorted in the 40s of tvix, you woulnd't worry about the french election coming up so much. Also, it only takes one down day like the 24th to make it well worth it instead of trying to get in and out so much. There's no easy way to catch up to missing out on a day like the 24th. I'm referring to being ALL IN and on LEVERAGE. Maximum position. That's the way I like to trade and when I see a move I'm all in If holding overnight for long term, I would never risk it and would only keep it real small. So, if I do miss a little gap down overnight it would only be with a small position -- which I can easily make up for with going all in with maximum daytrade buying power

BTW - VXX is in Bear Flag consolidation
Once VXX lod 14.31 gives way, I expect SCAMs to drop nicely

Even if you are fully leveraged, if it falls a lot early on in the trade, you are building a strong cushion. The scariest time would be early on in the trade before it falls from your entry point. So long as you are not adding to your position, you eventually are in the clear assuming the trade is going your way.

VXX currently 14.31
watching 15 min chart and indicators flirting with going bullish VXX can possibly pop to 14.35-14.40

LV - I hope you covered and not thinking of holding over weekend
But then again could get good move. Just not my personal trading style to risk it.
