if TVIX goes up $1 I will have all my profit that I gave back over today and yesterday
But I'm wondering if this is the move that takes VXX back to 23 area. VXX did leave a BREAKAWAY GAP in that area that has gone unfilled for a very long time.
That would put TVIX in mid $8 range

I went in heavily short on this the day after the election and held it for a long time like you guys. I did get scared out in early December before jumping back in later in the month though.

themist, I'm not so sure it can reach that high but i do think 21.38 around the inauguration high is very possible.

Let me tell you about rules- with TVIX they tend to go out the window when the serious volatility hits.
Really, I know the rules, but find them impossible to follow.
These are aggressive rules that I wish I could follow

themist, I'm not so sure it can reach that high but i do think 21.38 around the inauguration high is very possible. that would take VXX to fill the GAP back to VXX 20.50 and would fall short of filling the VXX GAP to 23.62 If that BREAKAWAY GAP gets filled to 23.62, that would probably make for a really good shorting point right above the GAP fill

depends on what your rules are i suppose. I don't really share my rules publicly because it will only make the algos take advantage of me. haha.

Looking back, I cannot think of any rule that I have been able to follow to the letter.
Rules are working for you, that's great. I'm looking for another solution that may not exist.

Looking back -- we've done fantastic over the few months And even after yesterday, we scaled it down quite a bit and did minimize losses We'll get back on track but I do think VIX SCAMs will rise more now. They've been unsually strong with rising ES. Imagine if they hit the SELL S&P button?! I just cant figure out why its not reflected in VIX Futures curve, contango rate yet. But I know that can change real fast. The days of 20+% contango rates are over for now. IMO

There have been many times the vix curve was strong yet there was still a big spike on tvix.

There have been many times the vix curve was strong yet there was still a big spike on tvix. I have found that they trade against the norm when they are drawn to fill upside GAPs that they left behind. Then right after the GAP gets filled they drop back down hard. I've been able to trade them nicely using this GAP theory. I posted a separate thread called 'VXX - Minding the GAPs' What threw me off this time was that these BREAKAWAY GAPs have gone unfilled for a lot longer than usual.

Note to self: First attempt at channel break is a warning sign. Even if S&P or ES goes back into steep channel, 2nd attempt at channel break should be the real move. Same goes with VXX. Popped above VXX 18.40 and then recoiled, then 2nd attempt is the break. VXX 18.45 in AH as I type. VXX double bottom target is low 20s ES is back below steep rising channel We'll see how it plays out tomorrow VXX 15min AH chart i

Keeping this in perspective, this is still almost nothing for VXX haha hardly a hitch as the market continues on upward. Unless it is the beginning of something...
