Some customers report trouble with accessing their accounts
A number of TD Ameritrade customers on Monday were reporting trouble accessing their accounts via frustrated tweets, prompting the online brokerage to apologize.
TD Ameritrade told MarketWatch in an email that it has been "seeing industry-wide latency issues (multiple brokers, market makers, etc.)" but said its clients' trades "are being executed."
"We did have some slowness this morning on our marketing site, which includes client login fields," said Kim Hillyer , a TD Ameritrade spokeswoman.
Hillyer said a client-trading site was working, so clients were given an alternate Internet address to bypass to go directly to that site until the issue was resolved. Mobile apps also "had some slowness," but "that too has been resolved," she said.
TD Ameritrade's (AMTD) official Twitter account has repeatedly told customers that problems are "due to historic volume & industry issues," adding "we apologize for the slowness."
Other big discount brokers said they weren't seeing problems with account access on Monday. "No issues to report," said Greg Gable , a spokesman for Charles Schwab Corp. (SCHW)
The frustration among customers comes amid a global stock selloff Monday, sparked by worries about China . The Dow industrials dived by more than 1,000 points (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/tense-day-for-wall-street-ahead-as-china-stocks-tank-85-2015-08-24) before erasing some losses to trade about 280 points lower.
Here's an example of a typical exchange on Twitter between TD Ameritrade and what seems to be a fuming customer:

Earlier Monday, the discount broker's Nicole Sherrod , managing director of active trading, tweeted that intraday margin on futures had been disabled for the day for TD Ameritrade clients:
