Probably just as well. Had the market moved too much in either direction, they likely would have reversed many of the trades anyway (the ones that mattered). But that never seems to happen for the up moves, does it?

My charts are all messed up now - missing data. But I'm sure the powers that be will fill in the data with what actually 'happened' when they 'figure it all out'. [sarc]
Seeing enough though to know that SPX & QQQ don't look so hot going into the close.

Very strange day. Guess even the algos don't know what to do without the Fed backing them.

Lol, Huh. Is your CTRL key worn out now?? I must be reading too much Kass. I'm feeling very very beary right now. I don't read any Kass, but I'm feeling very beary too. But not yet. This is all part of the topping process. Can't imagine a top now without making a higher high. Not after this much movement off the bottom. Also, XLF hasn't completed the parabolic patterns yet, and IWM is only just kicking into parabolic mode. SPX & QQQ should follow. Also, so long as VIX isn't over 15.85, it could receive a crushing blow (spot VIX that is, VIX scams may hold up relatively much better if we're actually topping here). JMHO

Options players think this is a topping process too, so I think VIX futures will bounce around near where they are at 16 or not much under. Things feel pretty dicey right now, like a hot potato.

As crazy as some of the moves might have been, both XLF and IWM closed bullish. VIX didn't close down much, but that's to be expected if topping.
But, on the IWM daily chart, draw a line across those 07/01, 09/03 and yesterday's highs. See where it closed today? Also, draw FIBs (including the 76.4) starting from the 09/03 top to the 10/15 low. See where it closed? It closed above the previous downtrend while finally closing above that last 76.4 FIB resistance - after testing it and falling back yesterday.
Of course it could be a head fake. But if not, the next up move would be a big one. I believe IWM will see 119.60's, at a minimum, before a market top is in. That's still 4% up from here.

...and don't have confirmation on it yet, but those parabolic patterns in XLF could be building for 23.90-24.10. Need another 1 or 2 of the patterns to confirm the exact target, but either way it should end up seeing a slightly higher high.

The PTB is conflicted. Needs a correction but Tues. is still ELECTION DAY. Thinking they tank it Wed. with the typical, "the markets don't like that the --- won". As we've said over & over, a large coupla down weeks and maybe the Fed capitulates with more QE (better known as QE Infinity). Tomorrow will be particularly dicey as it's opex. No clue here, would guess down which may help you bulls. Shoulda hung onto the JDST, +2 after I sold of course. BTW, there are a lot of good articles covering what Greenspan said and about his possible solutions to the global "turmoil"--he refuses to use the word crisis--in his latest book.

GPRO up 15% AH's and ST bulls are giddy.
It's under a bear flag, which is within a topping pattern, and has a gap to fill @ 79.15 which would also create the RS of a H&S pattern. Final FIB resistance at 80.08.
AH's high: 79.45.
I wouldn't exactly be selling the kids yet to buy some GPRO.
...Oh yeah, and the bottom of the double-top was 79.13 - resistance there as well.

If money keeps going into financial assets, but from now on actual money and not counterfeit money, I am wondering if it might tip us towards deflation. Money will become dear. It is all locked up in iVaults or bonds/stocks. At least a real estate bubble doesn't suck all the money out of the economy like this will.
